Debbie Alvarez, Dancing

I was deeply saddened by the recent passing of Debbie Alvarez, a.k.a. The Styling Librarian.

The illustration above is dedicated to Debbie, who told me how she much she enjoyed the way I could find beauty in the ordinary. The background: a photo I took in a drive-through car wash (see my previous two entries for other doodles inspired by the same car wash drive-through).

In the foreground: Debbie Alvarez, who was anything but ordinary.

This #inktober sketch turned out much darker than I expected but maybe that's not a bad thing

This #inktober drawing turned out much darker than I originally intended, but perhaps that's not a bad thing. Did the original ink drawing with a Pentel Pocket Brush but then took a photo and added some real-life textures digitally.

It was meant to be a quick sketch and I'm already noticing all kinds of things I'd fix in a revised version if this was going in a book. :-)

Now available: free, print-ready "Be A Reading Ninja!" poster

A while ago I posted a cherry stain doodle which I turned into a Reading Ninja. Many of you have asked if I could make this available as a poster, so here's a free print-ready "Be A Reading Ninja!" poster. You can find other free literacy-themed posters, bookmarks, activity sheets and more at my For Love Of Reading page.

You never know where you'll find a book fairy

This bunch of hydrangea was too big to incorporate into a regular found object doodle, so I decided to put a doodle in the hydrangea instead. :-) If you like garden doodles, do check out @priscilladesign's Instagram feed. Her art is adorable and always makes me happy!
