Boardgamegeek convention

Gaming at BGG.con 2008

I'm in Texas right now, attending BoardGameGeek.con and having a wonderful time. It's my first gaming convention ever, so wasn't exactly sure what to expect.

Birthday girl!

Despite not knowing anyone except my travel companions, I'm finding everyone friendly and welcoming. My secret fear of wandering around the convention and not being able to find anyone who'd be willing to play a game with me was unfounded, much to my relief, and I'm meeting all kinds of cool people.

Karen and Joe at BGG.con 2008

It's helped a great deal that I've been browsing tips from veterans on the BGG.con forums as well as getting other useful advice.

Game Library smiles

I'm finding it a lot like filk conventions except that instead of doing music around the clock, people play games. :-) Plus this convention is quite a bit bigger; I believe that over 700 people registered this year.

Gaming at BGG.con 2008

I'll post a more detailed report later, but here's a list of the games I've played so far (and it's only Friday!!):

Ghost Stories with Brian, Lisa and Tom

Geshenkt (sp?) with Steve, Carl, Jeff and John

Ghost Stories with Lincoln, Daniel and Nikki

Battlestar Galactica with Kulon-Quinn, John, Shane, Tieman (sp?), Kite Eating Tree (Ren?)

Zombies with Daryl and Mike

Pandemic with Jeff, Sean and Joseph McDowell

Pirate Billiards with Sean, Joseph McDowell and Scabourn (?), then with Cog

Prolix (prototype word game designed by Gil Hova) with Daryl (hostile17) and Dwayne

Medina with Karen, Joe Belanger, Dave (Ddubin)

Apologies if I've misspelled user nicknames and real names.

Games I'm still hoping to play include:

Battlestar Galactica (again)
Last Night On Earth
Snow Trails
Werewolf (apparently there's a big Werewolf game late at night)
Tichu
Wasabi

Darryl and Mike

I'm gradually adding photos to my BGG.con Flickr set. Also, if you're a fan of boardgames but have never heard of Boardgamegeek, you should definitely check out the Boardgamegeek site!

But enough blogging...I must get back to gaming. :-)

The name of the game you could not quite remember is 'Geschenkt', which means 'given as a gift' in German.
Have a wonderful time!!!
