Maya & Jeff Bohnhoff: GRATED HITS

Maya and Jeff Bohnhoff's GRATED HITS album is my favorite of their parody albums, and I'm not just saying this because Track 5 is named after me. :-)

SO much fun to listen to this album. Fantastic instrumentals, holy cow. Even -without- the lyrics, I'd be listening to this CD over and over again.

The parody lyrics, however, are wonderfully twisted and hilarious (you can download the lyrics from the website). Is there any type of song the Bohnhoffs can't write? I'm a huge fan of their original music albums (esp. MANHATTAN SLEEPS) as well.

Not only are the vocals of the Bohnhoffs' usual high caliber, but the album includes impressive lead vocals by their son and eldest daughter. For those that don't know, by the way, Maya Bohnhoff is also an accomplished science fiction and fantasy writer.

I -adored- this album. BUY IT. I promise you won't be disappointed.

To listen to a sample of each track and buy the CD, go to the Grated Hits CDBaby page.

My exciting news from the 2010 SCBWI Summer Conference

I'm here in L.A. at the Society Of Children's Book Writers & Illustrators Summer Conference. I can't believe it's the last day!

Please do go over and read my Inkygirl post:

A Brief (And Somewhat Stunned) Post From The SCBWI Conference In L.A.

Mystery bird

Toronto mystery bird

I was outside taking the bungie cords off the trash can around 6 a.m. this morning when I heard an unusual birdcall. When I looked up, I saw the shape above.

Rushed inside, grabbed my camera and telephoto lens, shot a close-up:

Toronto mystery bird

The light blue line is the telephone wire. I increased the exposure in the image to better see the details on the bird, but I don't have time right now to do much other editing.

Anyone know what kind of bird this is? I only managed to get a few shots before the bird flew off.

Got home from the cottage yesterday afternoon but I'm leaving for L.A. and the SCBWI Conference this morning. So excited!

No Blatherings until early August

Beckett and me

(Above: Beckett and me)

Just a heads-up that I won't posting any Blatherings until after I get back from my trip to L.A. for the SCBWI Conference and to visit with friends.

Please don't yell at me if you live in or near L.A. and I didn't let you know I was coming -- the conference is work-related and it's highly unlikely that I'll be spending any time outside of it. The friends I'm visiting afterward are longtime personal pals and friends of the family, and I wish I could be staying with them longer as it is.

Looking forward to doing some catching up with my friend Beckett Gladney, though! We're going to be roomies during the conference.

Cathy Moodboard

Cathy Moodboard

I've recently started experimenting with Moodboard, an iPad app. So far I love it! I created the image above in just a few minutes. It really appeals to my scrapbooker soul (no, I don't do scrapbooks but only because I really really don't need another hobby, no matter how appealing).

For those interested in my iPad and e-publishing posts, please follow @ipadgirl on Twitter, or visit my iPadGirl blog.
