FKO highlights (part 3)

Having a great time with Dave Clement. Allison and John are coming over tonight! Dave's made his famous chili, yum.
Above photo: Dave Weingart and Tony Fabris rehearsing in the hallway at FilKONtario. One of the things I like about filk conventions is exactly this sort of thing: the collaboration and mutual inspiration. I love wandering around the convention and finding people huddled together playing or working on music, brainstorming lyrics, etc.
Just found out that Allison's been posting some great FKO highlights in her Livejournal which are much more well-organized than I could possibly manage, so please do go check out her reports. Rather than try to recreate my own, I'll just add some comments and other personal convention highlights...
- As Allison pointed out, this was the first convention where all three of our husbands made an appearance!

- Fun to meet the new Ookla the Mok members: Joe and Wolfram. Loved their concert on Friday night!
- I always bawl when Joey Shoji sings "Cranes Over Hiroshima"...it's such a gorgeous song, and Joey does it so well.
- Rogers Chocolates Victoria Creams Miniatures and bookmarks from Lyanne for my birthday.
- Very much enjoyed instrumental noodling with Peter Alway (dulcimer) and Amy McNally (fiddle) on the Friday night. Amy was kind enough to agree (on VERY SHORT NOTICE!) to play with us in our concert, when we performed Aryana's "Still Beautiful."
- Finding out that Tony Fabris and Michelle Dockrey are Guests of Honour at FilKONtario in 2008! Their 15 minute concert on Saturday afternoon blew everyone away, and I love their new song, "Thirteen."

- The fabulous guests. Chris Conway, despite not feeling 100%, gave an amazing concert. I also enjoyed meeting Georgina, and hearing her sing in Chris's concert; she has a lovely voice.
- The tribute to Jodi that Chris gave with Allison in his concert, with an instrumental rendition of "The Lady"; Allison played guitar while Chris did a solo on his theramin. Jodi was the one who brought Chris into the filk community.
- Tanya Huff as Toastmaster! Not only was she entertaining, but she dressed with class (I especially loved the blue boa headdress). Here's a photo of some of the audience during her concert:

- Judi Miller was a fantastic Interfilk guest, and her signing evoked both laughter and tears from the audience...she turned signing into an artform:

- Judi was also friendly and easy to talk to. See Allison's LJ post about Judi here. Allison, Jodi and I learned a ton of useful signing phrases, like "need chocolate" and "Search For Spock". :-D Thanks so much to Interfilk for bringing this woman to FKO as a guest!

Jodi and Franklin.
To be continued...
