Toronto snow! (and gunfights)

Jeff and I woke to the sound of gunfire this morning.

Looking out the window, we were surprised to see SNOW on the sidewalk, as well as people running around bundled up in winter coats. What the heck?...

And then we remembered a note in our building warning us that the area was going to be used for a scene in a new movie called "Assault on Precinct 13", starring Laurence Fishburne and Ethan Hawke.

Laurence Fishburne and another actor. The guy on the
right gets shot a few seconds later, and Fishburne runs
back inside the church.

From the IMDB description of the movie: "In this retelling of John Carpenter's 70s B-grade classic, Laurence Fishburne plays a mobster being held in the soon-to-be-shut-down Precinct 13 on New Year's Eve. Ethan Hawke plays a captain who cobbles together a force made up of cops and criminals to protect the station from a gang that wants to set the mob guy free."

Making snow.

A lot of movie companies tend to use our neighbourhood for filming tv and movie projects, probably because it's not really a residential neighbourhood (except for our building) and tends to be emptier during non-business hours, especially a holiday like today. They often throw trash around to make it look like New York; fortunately they also clean it up. :-)

Crew throwing snowballs.

Despite the holiday Monday, both Jeff and I plan to work today. Though I might take a break every so often to see how filming is going outside. :-) I already went out once this morning in time to see someone get shot on the steps of the neighbourhood church.

Gunfights and late May snow...ah, life is never dull in downtown Toronto.

Street made to look like a winter scene. The "snow" is
actually a sheet of cotton.
