So I ended up not going to Urban Tapestry practice last night. I was already feeling icky (I bet you couldn't tell from my entry yesterday) and wasn't looking forward to feeling icky AND lugging all my stuff in rush hour on the subway, but never considered cancelling out. So when Jodi suggested that it might be better if I stayed home and rested, I jumped all over that suggestion. Jodi would obviously make a much better mother than I would. :-)

Whether I'll be able to sing at all will depend on my cold. :-( Feeling somewhat worse today; I suspect I won't be up very late tonight filking. Which sucks bigtime since I was still sick at OVFF last October. I haven't been able to fully enjoy a filk convention since last spring. It's not even as if I'm sick a lot...the last cold I caught was around OVFF time in October, and that was left over from a bug caught in California).

No use in getting too frustrated about it. :\ I just hope I don't pass the bug to Allison and Jodi (or anyone else at the con).

Funny how you sometimes hope and pray that you're sick enough to stay home from school as a kid, but dread it as an adult. I clearly remember the fervent crossing of fingers and toes on certain school mornings as Mom lay her cool palm against my forehead, hmming and wondering aloud if I had a fever as I coughed weakly, murmuring that I was sure I'd be okay.

When she went to get the thermometer, I'd hold my breath as soon as she left the room, somehow imagining that I could elevate my temperature by a few degrees if I held it long enough. A couple of times I even held the thermometer close to the lightbulb of my bedside reading lamp when Mom was out of the room.

I think she caught on, though, when I accidentally held it TOO close one time and the mercury in the thermometer shot up to a temperature that would have clearly resulted in my brain exploding in a spectacular way, if it had been anywhere close to accurate.

I'll be heading over to the Ad Astra hotel about mid-afternoon today. I'm bringing my laptop and might post reports and photos during the weekend, depending if I can get online from our hotel room. I signed up for The Ultimate Journaler Challenge last month for fun...it's a list of online journals who have posted daily. If you miss a day, you're off the list. I've been posting daily since Dec. 31/2001 (thanks for pointing out my typo, Lissa :-)). I know that I'll have to leave the list eventually (I'm not about to take a laptop with me on a canoe trip), but I thought it would be interesting to see how long I could last. :-)

Blatherpics

Today's pics were taken from an old undated photo album on the shelf.

An Urban Tapestry concert from last year's Ad Astra. You can read
about it here.

Andrea Dale and Graham Leathers. I can't remember what year (at least several) and I can't remember what convention. Both will be at FKO this year, yay!

Jodi and her sister Reina (sp?), performing at am Free Times cafe open mike. Again, can't remember what year this was. Urban Tapestry performed as well.
