ut practice

Did absolutely no musicstuff last night at UT practice, :-) Went out for sushi, rehashed FKO. Back at Allison's place, we threw party streamers at each other's heads (Allison had bought a bunch)...Allison was astounded that Jodi and I had never seen these things before. For my birthday, Jodi bought me a pair of very cool dangly earrings. Allison got me a very pretty mini-vase with maple leaf etchings and an Easter bunny with chocolates. Allison says she's nearly finished the FKO report, and is going to pass it to Jodi and me for adding comments.

Check out Andrea's Zen Cappucino Corner for FKO comments and details about Allison's Corruptive Chip Influence.

My nieces Sara (4) and Annie (2) came to visit for lunch yesterday. Annie loved my Quickcam; I'll post some of the pictures she took when I've had a chance to resize them. Sara immediately asked if she could play with my rubber stamps (I collect rubber stamps of all shapes and sizes). Annie still worships Sara and wants to do everything Sara does, be everywhere Sara is. Ruth recently reported the following conversation:

    SARA: I'm going upstairs.
    ANNIE: Me too!
SARA (getting a bit frustrated): Annie, I think I'd like to go upstairs by myself. I need to be alone.
ANNIE (tearfully, still following): Alone too!

Going to see Matrix today!

the matrix

Our FKO Report is ready, for those interested!

Quite enjoyed The Matrix last night even though I'm not a Keanu Reeves (sp?) fan. Great special effects.

nostalgia

Jeff and I cleaned out our storage locker yesterday, and I found some interesting tapes in the process. One was a tape marked "FILK - Allison Drury (Mar.14/88)". Wow, eleven years ago! Allison and I barely knew each other back then, and we certainly didn't know Jodi. One of the songs on the tape is "Thr Ancient Yearning", which is cool because it eventually ended up on our first album! Also "Desert and Forest". Both are Elfquest songs (hey, and I also found my Elfquest collection!). Another tape I found: "Used", a tape that Jodi made with her old group, "Group of 77". Very different sound from Urban Tapestry. :-) Also a house-recorded filk with Larry Warner (I think Allison hosted that filk, though I might be wrong).

Also found con tapes from OVFF II (1987, I played flute with Mike Stein on one of the tracks) and OVFF IV (1989, I played flute with Clif Flynt). Apparently I also played flute in a concert by Clif Flynt and Mary Ellen Wessels at OVFF II (they were the ones responsible for dragging me from my quiet, anonymous corner in the filk room).

I don't remember going to OVFF I, but an old boyfriend of mine (Reid) claims we both went. Were any of you at the first OVFF? Does anyone remember who was GoH?

chocolate

Have been nibbling on Joey Shoji's San Francisco chocolate all week, and am now starting to eye the chocolate rhino from Dave & Tom. Where to start?

Celebrating my birthday at my sister's place tonight with my nieces (my birthday was last Monday, but last week was too hectic to arrange any kind of get-together).

Gary Ehrlich's and Joe Neff's song, "Technical Nerdy Guys" is now available online.

PEGASUS NOMINATIONS DEADLINE EXTENSION: Deadline for the Pegasus Award nominations has been extended to *April 15th*. Please do send in a nomination...the more nominations the committee gets, the more representative of the filk community the final ballot will be. The nomination ballot is available online at http://www.inkspot.com/ovff/ballothtml.html. Please encourage your filker friends to send in nominations.

I am experiencing more computer woes these days; haven't figured out why yet. Netscape tends to crash on me 20-25 times a day...each time, I have to reboot my computer. Any advice welcome!

Jeff scanned the Rice Paper cover and article layout sample for my archives, if any of you are interested. Allison said she went looking for the magazine in Toronto and couldn't find it. The magazine is a Asian Canadian literary arts magazine, so you likely won't find it in general magazine stores, and likely not in the U.S., sorry. :-) Info about the magazine at the link above.

being a dog

Went to my sister's last night for birthdaystuff. Sara made me a teapot (painted flowers, etc. on a white teapot, after which it was glazed and fired, I think)...very cool-looking! Sara and Annie helped blow out the candles on my cake. The rest of us started talking, then, and it was only after about five minutes that we noticed that Annie had been sitting there very quietly, taking her forefinger and dragging it through the top of the cake repeatedly, then licking her finger clean of icing. The top of the cake looked like a war zone. Still tasted pretty good, though. :-)

After dessert, I went upstairs and had a pillow fight on Ruth and Kaarel's bed with Sara and Annie (lots of shrieking and jumping around) until Annie fell on my foot and hurt her chin. At that point we went back downstairs to play Cinderella (I was the Stepmother, and Annie pretended to weep piteously when I told her she couldn't go to the ball). After that, I was a pet dog...a new game for both Sara and Annie, and they loved it. They fed me, punished me, patted my head, made me go fetch, locked me in the dog pound. Jeff rescued me from the pound, though, when it was time to go home.
