QUOTES ABOUT MY VIRTUAL VISITS:
"That was one of the most fun things ever!"
- Rollinsford (NH) student, after Debbie's comic writing workshop
“I cannot tell you how inspired our children were by your activities. For weeks, they worked on character sketches, read and reread your books, wrote comics together and on many occasions encouraged your ‘when you are writing and illustrating for fun, there’s no such thing as making a mistake’ mantra. I hope in future years you will visit us again!”
- Libby Broom at Guidepost Montessori, Foothill Ranch in CA
"I can honestly say that in my 5 years at this school, I have NEVER seen the excitement I saw today!! Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for taking the time to chat with us today. You are WONDERFUL — not only as an illustrator, but as an inspiration to kids (and adults!) everywhere."
- Jen Sterner at Newport Elementary (Newport, MN)
"During our virtual visit with Debbie, students were excited, inspired, and engaged. Debbie presented age appropriate material to a variety of children that left them with a renewed passion for reading and writing! Teachers that attended her sessions also remarked how they hoped she would have an opportunity to visit us again! I would highly recommend Debbie for in-person or virtual visits. Her attention to detail and ability to keep various ages of learners engaged, in ANY setting, is remarkable! Thanks Debbie!"
- Amy, third grade teacher
"Super awesome, high energy, fun Skype session with Debbie Ridpath Ohi who read aloud, drew, inspired and engaged!"
- Jamie Palmer at Schlegel Elementary about Kindergarten students (Webster, NY)
"This was our first experience with using Skype for an author visit. Debbie Ohi made it engaging, intimate and memorable for second graders. They left the room eager to try their hand at found art and echoing her words, 'It’s okay if you make mistakes, just keep trying.'"
- Christine Kaiser at St. Vincent de Paul Elementary School (Omaha, NE) on Twitter
"I was impressed with Debbie's ability to engage our squirmy first graders for the whole time – kudos to her! Thank you, Debbie, for bringing us the story behind I'm Bored and letting our kids get a glimpse of the writing and drawing life. "
- Carla Larsen, Media Specialist, South Washington County Schools
"Debbie does a fabulous job of making a Skype visit feel intimate and personal. She is adept at incorporating student participation in a way that works for a virtual visit. My students really connected with her enthusiasm for creative play through art."
- Laura Given, K-8 Library Media Specialist, Parkview Center School
"Drawing just makes everything in your life better."
- Student at Rollinsford Grade School (NH),
while creating fan art after one of Debbie's Skypevisits
"We had Debbie do two virtual author/illustrator visits with our kindergarten and first grade classes. The virtual visit was a great experience thanks to Debbie - and at a fraction of the cost of an in-person author visit. She was amazing, and well-worth the nominal fee. She was very high energy, and really kept even our youngest students engaged. Debbie provided a well-structured virtual visit, with a great mix of talking about her process and hands-on drawing activities for students. The kids loved it (and so did the teachers). I received nothing but positive feedback. I have a feeling we might see some potato costumes at Halloween!"
-- Anne Johnson, Altamont Elementary, Altamont, NY
"I can't thank you enough for your time today! My fifth-grade students and I enjoyed the Skype chat so very much. You were bursting with enthusiasm and creativity!!!! My students were very impressed. We read all of the books you wrote and/or illustrated, and we absolutely love the potato in I’m Bored!”
- Beth Raff, Auten Road Intermediate School (NJ).
