Recent iPad sketch: Boy At Airport

Taking the advice of pro illustrators at the SCBWI Summer Conference, I'm going to be doing a lot more life sketching from now on. Here's a sketch I did on my iPad at the LA airport (using a Pogo Sketch stylus with the SketchBook Pro app) while I waited for my flight home:

BoyAirport

I was actually sketching something else when the boy noticed me drawing on my iPad and started watching in fascination, so I erased my original doodle partway through and sketched HIM instead. :-D He called his brother over excitedly and said something. My French is only so-so, but I did recognize the word "vitesse" so figured he was surprised that I could draw so quickly.

I gave my business card and a Pixel Shavings bookmark to his dad after he asked me (in English) if I drew for a living.

Daily Doodle: iPad Caveman

iPad Caveman Doodle

Now that I'm considering using textures in my illustrations professionally, I'm being way more picky about my texture sources. I've come across so many free texture sources that are largely composed on textures made from copyrighted images OR just ripped off from other texture sources.

I've been a fan of CG Textures for a while, and decided to opt for a paid membership for more user-friendly interface, higher daily download quota and access to higher-res textures.

Anyway, I liked the texture above so much that I decided to just draw my Daily Doodle right on top of it. :-)

Daily Doodle: Gladiator with an iPad

Daily Doodle: Gladiator with an iPad

Yes, it's a gladiator with an iPad. Don't ask me where it came from...for these Daily Doodles, I tend to just put pen to tablet and start drawing.

Actually wait, I do know where the gladiator came from. Jeff & I recently bought a PS3 Move Controller that came with a Sports Challenge game. To my surprise, I -love- the Gladiator challenge! It's way fun, wielding a shield and a sword, and bashing about my opponents in an arena. Good exercise and even a little therapeutic.

As for the iPad, well...I ALWAYS have iPads on the brain. :-D
