Thanks to Greg Pincus for pointing me to "You Say Potato, I Say Wi-Fi," an article about Project SPUDS. It turns out that the way a pile of sacks of potatoes affects Wi-Fi signals is close enough to the human effect for testing purposes on planes. However, I object to one of their claims: that potatoes don't get bored! :-)
