FOR YOUNG CARTOONISTS

By Debbie Ridpath Ohi

December 12, 2012: I've just launched this section, and will be enhancing it with more activity sheets, tutorials, and advice during 2013. Stay tuned!

I've been creating online comics for many years, just for the fun of it. Like: Will Write For Chocolate (house full of writers), My Life In A Nutshell (semi-autobiographical), Waiting For Frodo (avid fans waiting in line for the Lord Of The Rings movies), Waiting For Bilbo (co-written with Shane McEwan, about avid fans waiting in line for The Hobbit movies),  NaNoToons (co-written with Errol Elumir, about NaNoWriMo), and many comics for writers created for Inkygirl and Writer Unboxed, my board gaming comics for BoardGameGeek.com.

As you can tell, I love making comics!

What I've learned about making webcomics:

1. How well you draw is not nearly as important as how well you connect with your readers.

2. Practice, practice, practice. Your drawing AND your ability to know what makes a good comic will improve over time...as long as you keep practising.
