Updating your blog is not the same as a personal message

Greg Pincus

One of my favourite people on Twitter is Greg Pincus. Through his Twitter feed, I found a post he made on his blog reminding people that updating your status on Twitter or Facebook or posting something on your blog is not the same as a personal message.

I especially love this paragraph:

It’s not that I think we shouldn’t use social media to spread the word about news (personal or professional) it’s a fast, often efficient way of doing so. Still, I don’t think there should be an assumption that your news will be seen by everyone who is your friend/follower/reader/subscriber.

I never assume that all my Twitter followers or friends or work associates read every one of my posts (or any recently). As Greg says, if you want to make sure someone knows your news, you should always contact them directly.

Whichever method it is, it’s well worth the effort. If you don’t take that step, I don’t think you can get upset when folks don’t know your news whether it’s that you’ve gotten married, need a job, gotten hired… or anything in between.

Carla Ulbrich: Live From Outer Space

CarlaCover-med

Just a reminder that Carla Ulbrich's newest CD, Live From Outer Space, is available for purchase. I'm giving this CD a plug not just because Carla's a very funny and talented songwriter/musician, but also because I did the cover. :-)

You can find out more about Carla and her CD at Carlau.com.
