to the concom for their help in arranging this gathering!

Allison and Robin. Robin Holly and Victor Stevko did an amaaaazing
consuite. Tons of food, both homemade by them (maple baclava, yum!)
and other people (yummy cookies from Casana, for example, and
Ny's delicious soup and lemon cookies)

concertino

Our children's concert at Concertino. We had one child
in the audience; the rest were adults (children at heart :-) )

Got home from Massachusetts today. Dead tired, had a great time, more photos and details soon. Many thanks to the Concertino convention committee for doing a great job! Allison, Jodi and I had a wonderful time. Must sleep now.

pancake art

One of the pancakes I made at the cottage, supposed to be a face.

Finished watching the last Buffy episode! This means that I will have watched seven seasons in three months. THank you, Michelle and Vartan, for being my suppliers! Buffy kept me sane through the worst of my tendinitis.

Leaving for Concertino in a couple of hours. I'm trying to fit everything into one small carry-on bag and my knapsack, so I don't have to tire out my arms lugging around my regular suitcase. Given that my music alone fills up half my carry-on, I am finding it a challenge. Paring down my percussion to a few items instead of taking my regular bag.

My butterfly pancake.

Check out Allison's cool costume in her Toronto Trek report!

Must finish packing.

Have a great weekend, everyone!

t-shirts

Allison and Jodi at St. Lawrence Market yesterday afternoon.

Much to do before I leave for Concertino on Friday, so this Blathering will be short and more incoherent than usual. Had a lot of fun with Allison and Jodi yesterday, wandering through St. Lawrence Market and then having dinner at the HotHouse Cafe. Back at the apartment, we used iron-on transfer sheets to make T-shirts for ourselves as well as for the Interfilk auction at Concertino. See Allison's Livejournal entry on the topic.

In our "Sushi and High Tea" t-shirts! The CD cover illustration
is by Beckett Gladney.

During dinner, We found ourselves reminiscing over how we all met, and our 10 years as Urban Tapestry. I think it very cool that we have stayed together this long (to you filkers out there: I'm curious... do you know of other filk groups who have been together 10+ years? Which ones?) but more significantly, have remained good friends throughout.

I have to say I feel pretty lucky. :-)

(Added note: I realize my question above was pretty vague. I was referring to groups of 3 or more who mainly play in filk venues. I also know there are quite a few duos out there who have been together for along time, such as Katy & Yu, Rand & Adam, Jeff & Maya :-))

Jodi and Allison hold up part of our donation to the
Interfilk auction at Concertino this weekend: infant size and
XL size "Sushi and High Tea" t-shirts.

birthday bash

Kaarel at his birthday bash last night. Photo by Sara.

I'm starting to use the keyboard to type a little bit more every day, but am still relying heavily on ViaVoice to help me with longer text passages. Being able to use the keyboard for mouse clicking and movement is a real time saver; having to say stuff like "Move down 2 lines; move right 3 words; move right 4 characters" was starting to drive me slowly mad.

Jonathan and Peter

I'm starting to accept new assignments, like a short piece for a spa company on the West Coast. They discovered and liked the photographs I took in my Nahanni trip report, and a subsequent e-mail discussion led to an article assignment. I love the Internet. :-)

Michelle and me.

Only a few days left until Concertino! I'm really looking forward to this convention. Allison, Jodi and I are hosting a Performers Circle whose participants include Martin and Andy Gordon-Kerr, Rand Bellavia, Daniel and Melissa Glasser, and Jeff and Maya Bohnoff. We are also performing a children's concert, which should be fun.

Reid and Luisa

To those of you attending the convention: please do drop by the Urban Tapestry 10th anniversary party in the con suite, where you will also be able to hear tracks from our new CD! Check the program book for scheduling information. Many thanks to the Concertino concom for helping to arrange this.

Andy and me.

Urban Tapestry will be donating a pre-release hand-copied/printed copy of our CD as well as a t-shirt to the Interfilk auction at of the convention. Allison and Jodi are coming over tonight for a music practice as well as a T-shirt-making session. Many thanks to Beckett for giving us permission to use her cover artwork on the T-shirt.

Kristen and Justin.

Jeff and I had a ton of fun last night celebrating Kaarel's 40th birthday at the Mandarin (Ruth and Kaarel treated everyone!). Wow, lots of digital cameras. Ah, how I yearn for the old days when I was usually the only one with a digital camera at gatherings and therefore never had to fear photo retaliation. :-)

I show my appreciation for all the photos John
took of me last night.

The Skimper Project was born last night, too, started by Sara, official status inspired by David Barker, technical realization aided by Reid. More details to follow.

Many thanks to Ruth and Kaarel for hosting the event!

For Christo...
