bike

Got my bike yesterday! No bike ride (Jeff's back is still not up to it) but we did drop by the Martin Goodman trail so Jeff could give me a brief lesson. I learned how to disengage the brakes and take off the wheels, for instance, something I never had to do with my old bike (from when I was 12). Jeff adjusted my gears, my toe cage strap thingys, my brakes. When we got back to our building, we ran into another tenant who congratulated me on my new bike and said, "So you do know about biking in Toronto, right? Never leave your bike anywhere in the city, locked or unlocked." Mark Osier told me that Toronto has one of the highest bike theft rates in North America. Now I'm feeling all paranoid!

Forgot to mention about the Musical Box concert yesterday...one of the other people in our group accurately commented that the crowd at the concert also looked like the type of crowd who would be going to a Barney or Sharon/Lois/Bram concert. :-)

Going to Amherstberg for my sister-in-law's baby shower today. Hope everyone had a good weekend!

ramblings

The entry about my brother Jim has been moved to here.

Check out Bob Guest's webpage, which includes a message board and pics from FKO. Bob also told me how to get the umlaut code over the ö. (you have to use a &#246)...thanks, Bob!

Working on Inklings today. Many thanks to Scott Snyder for helping me out with the admin for this issue.
Jeff's coming home from Montreal tonight...I guess I better close all the cupboard doors again.

fko report

FilKONtario report is now online!

Went out on my first bike ride today! Went with Jeff and a few other friends (Lee, Alison & her boyfriend Jeff) along the Humber River trail, did 23 km (about 1 1/2 hrs). It was WONDERFUL...great scenery, much more fun than riding a stationery bike. I managed to do all the hills except one winding one right at the end of our ride near Lee's place. This hill is going to be one of my goals, of course. :-)

Next, I'm going to tackle the Martin Goodman trail. A flatter ride, but riding along the harbourfront will be fun, I think, and I can ride faster if I go early in the morning. Hopefully David will ride with me sometimes (hear that, David?). :)

I've named my bike Henri (actually Henry, as in "O Henry", the chocolate bar, but "Henri" sounds a bit more refined, don't you think)?

sara

Today's picture is of my 3 year old niece Sara (she turns four in July). Apparently Sara can "read" now, sort of. At least she can identify certain words like "cat" and "bus". Her parents have no idea how this happened. I think it's just because Sara loves picture books and has had books read to her since Day One. Sara also knows how to print her name forwards and backwards.
