inklings anniversary

Sent out Inklings today...2nd anniversary issue (check out the Inklings birthday page)! More blatherings later (I'm currently being deluged with the usual post-Inklings email onslaught...mostly bounced issues; about 2-3% of all issues tend to bounce back, and with 20,000 subscribers, this tends to add up). TODAY'S SITE: (mostly for Anne and me :-)): Sean Connery (oh, do stop making that face, MarkO). [ 5:30 PM ] I'll be going to Nantucket tomorrow through Sunday, so no blatherings during that time, I'm afraid (I might get in a short blather tomorrow morning, tho).

pilot update

Something is amiss in the land o' Sea Monkeys...an illness appears to have infested the colony. There are only three left, including Sigmund (who has looked much better in the past, I'm afraid). PILOT UPDATE: I am incredibly happy with my PalmPilot, by the way. The batteries (it runs on two AAAs) have lasted a ridiculously long time considering how often I use the thing. At the moment my Pilot includes the following: all my phone/addresses, my full calendar (viewable by day, week, or month), lots of Inklings/Inkspot info (publishing schedule, writer payments, current projects, etc.), categorized to-do lists and memos, the entire novel of "The Wizard Of Oz" (I *hate* waiting in line-ups without something to read), Klondike (a card solitaire game), Maki (another game I still haven't figured out yet), a simple finance program, and a tiny drawing program (in case the need to cartoon suddenly comes upon me). I just deleted a shareware copy of Space Invaders because it was too addictive. Anyway, with all that I've only used 340k of 960k so far. SITE OF THE DAY: Because I'll be away for the next couple days, I thought I'd mention two interesting sites instead of one: HyperHistory Chart (you need Netscape 2.0 or later to be able to see this) and (this one's for Allison) Redheads International. Have a great weekend, everyone!

drilling

Someone is drilling through the cement floor directly above my office ceiling. At least that's what it sounds like right now...I'm waiting for flecks of paint to start drifting down on my keyboard any second now. Had fun in Nantucket, ate lots of seafood, went sailing and biking, watched the sailboats. Also heard a great folk singer named Linda Worster at The Brotherhood...my heart always goes out to those brave souls who perform in restaurant settings, where people are usually more interesting in eating and talking than listening to music, no matter how good it is. Anyway, I bought one of her CDs and was surprised/pleased to find out she had recorded some of the tracks in Toronto! CURRENT READING: _Ruined By Reading_ by Lynne Sharon Schwartz. Thanks to Mike Lloyd for lending me this. :-) I'm also working my way through the short stories in _River Teeth_ by David James Duncan (found it in The Strand last weekend!). SITE OF THE DAY: Boodle Box - fun "fake awards" and graphics you can add to your site. Also here's yet another redhead site (Redheads In Art: Myth, Symbolism, and Power). SCHEDULE UPDATE: Looks like I'm going to Confusion next January (Jan. 23-35), probably visiting my sister-in-law and her husband a couple days before.

neighbours

NETNEWS: ZDnet reports an anti-spam victory when CyberPromotions had its service terminated last week. C|Net hopes its free new Snap service will lure users away from AOL. Snap organizes content into various "channels" and hopes to make its money through ads. PERSONAL BLATHER:
Someone's moved in across the hallway! Haven't seen them yet, but another neighbour reports they're a nice young couple. Hopefully they won't want to renovate their apartment (thanks to Gary Erlich for letting me know I'm not the only one suffering from Renovating Neighbours). Scott Snyder has officially taken over the links section of the UT site, so please direct link update requests to cosmo@inkspot.com, thanks.
SITE OF THE DAY: Animaniacs Mega Lyrics File. [ 5:27 PM ] Hey, Inklings was recommended on the HomePC site and in the October issue of the hardcopy magazine! Apparently the article was about the "250 Best Free Things On The Web".
