Q. What do you do in your position?
I acquire and edit a select list of picture books for the Random House Books For Young Readers imprint.
Q. What are some of the best-known books or series that you’ve worked on in the past?
Toot and Puddle by Holly Hobbie, Splat the Cat by Rob Scotton, Pinkalicious by Victoria Kann for series. The Napping House, by Audery and Don Wood, I Love You Like Crazycakes by Rose Lewis, illustrated by Jane Dyer, Plant a Kiss by Amy Krouse Rosenthal, illustrated by Peter Reynolds, Uni the Unicorn by Amy Krouse Rosenthal, illustrated by Brigette Barrager, There Was an Old Dragon Who Swallowed a Knight by Penny Parker Klostermann, illustrated by Ben Mantle and I Will Chomp You by Jory John, illustrated by Bob Shea.
Q. What do you like best about your job?
My favorite time is when I can close my office door, pull out a manuscript or manuscript and sketches, spread it around and get lost in the words and the pictures while I try to channel the intentions of the author and illustrator.
Q. What is your favorite flavor of birthday cake?
Chocolate cake with Aunt Evelyn’s Delicious Frosting
Q. What advice do you have for young writers and illustrators?
The best way to improve your own writing is to read widely and to revise everything you write.
Q, Is there anything else that you'd like young readers to know about you?
I feel very fortunate to have a job that I love where I'm never bored. Every title is a new beginning.
