UPDATED July 24, 2020: Debbie is available for virtual visits during the pandemic. When the Canada-U.S. border opens to travel and public speaking again becomes safe, she will resume her visits to schools, libraries and conferences. For more details, please see her Virtual Visits Page. You can also read feedback from educators and students about her virtual visits.
Thank you for your interest in a virtual visit with Debbie. All of her presentations can be adjusted to suit all age levels, from kindergarten to college students to educators and other professionals.
Debbie has recently upgraded her virtual visit set-up to accommodate schools that are doing e-learning. This includes being able to easily switch between different cameras:
- A regular headshot camera.
- An overhead livestream camera that can be used to show close-ups of Debbie's illustration process, including found object art and broken crayon art demos. A picture-in-picture insert enables viewers to see Debbie's face while she is drawing and describing what she's doing.
- Sharing a second monitor, where she can show static slides via Keynote/Powerpoint, or her digital art process via Photoshop, or specific online resources.
- Sharing her iPad screen, where she can show her digital art process.
Debbie has given talks and/or workshops at the Vermont College Of Fine Arts (VCFA, 2019), Toronto Public Library (Sophie's Studio graphic novel writing workshop for young people, 2016 & 2019), picture book writing (Highlights Foundation, 2018), SCBWI Winter Conference 2017, SCBWI Summer Conference 2018, various SCBWI regional conferences, CANSCAIP (2014), nErDcamp (Michigan), and other events. You can browse her book tour reports through the U.S. in 2014 (NAKED!), 2015 (WHERE ARE MY BOOKS?), 2017 (SEA MONKEY & BOB) and 2018 (I'M SAD).
Feel free to browse feedback and photos from educators and students about her virtual visits.
Photos are welcome but no audio/video recording, please.
Here is a list of some of the schools with whom I've done virtual visits.
